Soda May Raise Heart Failure Risk

By Wendy Haaf

More not-so-sweet news about sugary soda: two servings a day may increase your risk for heart failure. Researchers tracked 42,400 Swedish men aged 45 to 79 who had filled out dietary questionnaires detailing their average consumption of 96 foods and beverages in the previous year. Between 1998 and 2010, 3,604 of the men were newly diagnosed with heart failure and 509 died of it. However, the incidence of heart failure during that period among those subjects who drank two 200 ml servings a day was 25% higher than among their pop-abstaining peers. Source: Heart
